The notion that food is for the stomach and not the brain is an ambiguous statement, though we are fueling our stomachs then why does it affect our brain at times. There are a multitude of things that happen when we consume food, if you are eating food, you enjoy eating frequently then it releases a drug in your brain called dopamine. The brain would release this drug expecting a reward, and that could be eating your favourite food or playing video games for hours on end. It quintessentially relaxes your entire body, and your brain would be satisfied.

Other things that transpire when you consume food is when the food moves through the stomach, it would send signals to the brain that is filled with sensory nutrients, and other information. So, the answer is yes, the food consumed most definitely affects the brain.

There are a few risks, consuming an insurmountable number of sugary drinks can lead to things such as diabetes but other effects to the brain can increase the risk of dementia even in people who are not diagnosed with diabetes. An experiment done on rats showed that they found out it increased their brain inflammation and impaired their memories.

However, consuming the correct foods will not only help your brain but your stomachs as well. One of the best foods you should eat is Fish, 60% of our brains are made up of Omega 3 Fatty acids and all fish contain omega 3 fatty acids. Examples would be salmon, trout, albacore tuna, herring, and sardines. Your brain would use the Omega 3 Fatty acids to build brain and nerve cells, and these fats are essential for learning and memory

Other good additional foods you may consume are blueberries , they contain compounds with anti-inflammatory and antioxidants. Antioxidant against oxidative stress and inflammation, conditions which can lead to brain aging and neurodegenerative disease.
